If you’re looking for a healthy high protein, low-carb recipe that’s great for your gut health look no further! I’m always trying to implement more fermented foods into our diet because of the fantastic probiotic benefits, but sometimes it’s hard coming up with a delicious meal that easily incorporates sauerkraut, but this one does it (in large quantities) deliciously!
This easy dinner recipe might seem odd at first, but trust me, the flavors are so good together! I like to serve this with mashed potatoes and a veggie, usually green beans, but you can definitely serve just the sausage and sauerkraut–that’s usually how I eat the leftovers. Give it a try–I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
Ingredients
This one is super easy since it has only two ingredients. For the smoked sausage, use whatever kind you like! Same goes for the sauerkraut.
Instructions
This meal comes together with minimal time and effort. Start by cutting up the sausage into small pieces.
Then add the sausage to a pan (you can add a little oil to the pan to prevent sticking if you’d like) on medium heat and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the sausage is starting to crisp up.
Then, add the sauerkraut and cook until warm, about 5-10 minutes.
Serve and enjoy!

Smoked Sausage and Sauerkraut
Ingredients
- 12 oz. smoked sausage
- 2 cups sauerkraut
Instructions
- Cut smoked sausage into bite sized pieces.12 oz. smoked sausage
- Cook in a pan over medium heat until the sausage starts to brown (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add in sauerkraut and cook until hot (about 5 minutes).2 cups sauerkraut
- Serve and enjoy.
